Day 67 – Illinois and Wisconsin (by Caitlin)
Events of Tuesday, August 31, 2010
After a delicious breakfast treat of bananas and cottage cheese provided by our loving and doting father, we shopped for miscellaneous items, conveniently located at the Walmart nearby, and then sat down to plan the next part of our trip. This process took about an hour and a half. Then we drove to Costco for more food (including lunch) and then to AAA for more maps. At Costco, we wasted a few too many minutes playing games on the laptops they had out on display. We also enjoyed seeing a little girl in a short white dress dance back and forth in the aisles of the store, and then wave goodbye and blow us kisses when it was time to move on. We really miss all our ‘children’ back home.
When we visited a rest area on our way north towards Wisconsin, we parked next to a bulldozer – something that doesn’t happen every day. We were amazed to discover that the ladies’ restrooms inside the rest area had purse holders in each stall. In addition to the hook on the back of the stall door there was a little plastic container in which to put one’s purse. Not that we had any purses to utilize this unique feature, but I thought it was interesting enough to mention. That rest area was one of the best we’ve visited thus far on this trip.
We had a bit of an adventure trying to find our campground in Wisconsin. It seemed that every road we were to follow was closed to through traffic. After ignoring a few of these signs and taking us on some very bumpy roads, Dad and Ben finally found our campsite. There, we chose the perfect spot, far away from all other campers, but close to the comfort station and the playground. After setting up camp, we had a bit of chill time, catching up on blogging, showering, painting nails, cleaning up our personal areas, making friendship bracelets, doing computer work, exploring the area. Then we studied Mark 2:18-3:6 as a family, discovering God’s Word together through a manuscript study. We agreed as a family to seek God more intensely to active devotion, rather than just by going through the motions. Then we ate a delicious dinner of rotisserie chicken, white rice, and sweet corn, with chocolate chip meringues for dessert. (Thanks Aunt Lori!) After dinner, we cleaned up and did more computer work to catch up. Yay for exciting beginnings in Wisconsin!
