Together, we have visited a total of 144 showers during our epic journey. Sometimes showering was the adventure of the day, and other times, it was just something we had to do. Now, however, it is time to move on. This is the part where we turn off that splendid spray of water, dry ourselves off with those soft, thick towels, get dressed, and move on with our lives. It’s been great showering with you! J

At First Glance: So clean and so spacious! The Herscowitzes did a great job keeping our house spotless while we were gone! The kids’ bathroom has never looked cleaner!

Shower Power: Blissful! Perfect in every way. Exactly the wondrous stream I desire!

Hot or Not?: Plenty hot for all of our showers, no matter the length, or the dishwasher running or the number of baths Mom takes.

What Made it Nice: Being in my own shower!

At First Glance: This may be a barnhouse, but its shower is spectacular! While decorated in a clashing fifties-style mixture of too many different patterns, it has fantastic features in regards to the shower itself, making it one of our better shower experiences – if I can manage to shower with my eyes squeezed shut!

Shower Power: Amazingly powerful! It’s incredible and absolutely unbelievable how much water comes out with so much strength from such a teeny tiny little showerhead!

At First Glance: Mom exclaimed, “That’s a nice shower!” the second she walked into the bathroom here. Maybe that’s because it’s the first fully enclosed shower we’ve had since practically the British Isles!

Shower Power: Amazing! Too powerful, but fortunately if one does not pull the knob out all the way, it is the perfect amount of pressure!

Hot or Not?: Pleasantly hot. Does not fluxuate with flushing, running water in the sink, or even running the dishwasher or laundry machine...

At First Glance: A large corner bathtub, with a shower head capable of extreme adjustments in all directions.

Shower Power: Medium light. Angled weird, though, so one could not get under it to get the full pressure.

Hot or Not?: Warm most of the time.

What Made it Nice: Enough towels to go around, though not the softest material or prettiest color.

What Made it Not-So-Nice: Wimpy accordion-style shower door did not prevent any water from going anywhere. Hence, water went everywhere!

At First Glance: Three bathrooms: one just a toilet and a very small sink, with gorgeous decorative wall tiles, the second just a shower, a towel warmer, and a large sink, and the third a bathtub with shower head, a toilet, a large sink, a towel warmer, and much more.

Shower Power: In a word, pathetic. Which is sad, because everything else about this shower is utterly amazing.

Hot or Not?: Very hot, and not very easily adjustable. Correctly labeled, but on the underside, which is not visib...

At First Glance: A shift-and-lift adjuster for pressure and temperature, a showerhead able to adjust up and down, as well as side to side, a little metal rack in the corner for shower stuff, a decent shower curtain. This shower had almost everything. The one thing it lacked was something to keep the water from flooding the bathroom floor. No little ledge or rug or anything. But if we tilt it just so, the water stays mostly within the drain’s reach.

At First Glance: A lovely puke green theme – green toilet, sink, shelf, shower floor. Gross ceiling, and I don’t even want to look behind the toilet! The inside of the bathroom door, however, had a lovely reproduction of a drawing or painting of a little girl on a fence with flowers in her hair. Very pretty, and the only thing in the bathroom that was worth looking at.

At First Glance: Amazing decorations! The bathroom has an under-the-sea theme, but it’s very busy with all the decorations the owners have piled into this small room. A shell-shaped bathtub with a seat in the corner of it also has a showerhead with adjustable height and spray. Several stuffed animals hang from the ceiling.

Shower Power: Amazing pressure! So deliciously clean!

Hot or Not?: A very fine line between too hot and too cold, but either side of the line was tolerable.

At First Glance: Wonderfully spacious and bright white bathtub with a shower nozzle…please tell me that’s not the shower! Also, an equally roomy and clean shower stall tucked in the far corner of the bathroom. Very simple and straightforward, no nonsense about it.

Shower Power: Amazing! So wonderful. Pounding water pressure could be easily adjusted just by lowering the lever, but none of us wanted any less than the most powerful water pressure possible.

At First Glance: In our hostel room, there are two sunshine-yellow doors next to each other, one leading to the toilet, and the other to the shower. The shower room looks like a campground shower. Gross gray concrete floor, two hooks, a small shelf, and a simple shower nozzle coming straight out of the wall. On-off is up-down, hot-cold is left-right. Just the bare necessities and nothing more.

Shower Power: Not great. I had to stand on my tiptoes and stretch my head as close to the showerhea...

At First Glance: No shower curtain?! The bathroom counter and rim of the bathtub were littered with other people’s junk. Gross! I spent ten minutes trying to clean the bathroom; that’s not MY job! But this bathroom boasted a countertop around the sink, something I have dearly missed.

Shower Power: Actually quite impressive, and the absence of a shower curtain was not that bad. The toilet seat got a little misted, but that’s no big deal.

At First Glance: Two bathrooms – disappointing, because the website had promised three. But two will have to suffice. The bathroom on the ground floor was itty bitty, just a toilet, a sink, and a shower, all inhumanely crammed into a tiny room. The upstairs bathroom was more spacious and luxurious, with a shower-bath combination featuring a shower curtain that cut off half the shower space.

At First Glance: Three very small bathrooms, each adjacent to one of the three bedrooms. Mom and Dad’s en-suite bathroom was jam-packed with a large bathtub, a huge sink, and a big toilet. My and Abby’s en-suite bathroom was crammed full with a large shower, a toilet, and a teeny tiny little sink in the corner. The bathroom  across the hall from Ben’s and Lindsey’s bunk bedroom was chock-full with just a small shower, a sink, and a toilet.

What Made it Not-So-Nice: Not really any place to hang the towels to dry. Also, in the shower, no place to put everything but on the floor!

At First Glance: In our two separate rooms, we each had a tiny bathroom. Inside this itty bitty bathroom was crammed a sink, a toilet, a heated towel rack, and a shower.

Shower Power: Not bad at all!

What Made it Nice: Another box-control shower, the promise of cleanliness, and bright, gay, colorful towels and shower curtains.

At First Glance: Wow. FOUR bathrooms! All for us! The downstairs bathroom had a spacious shower and a cramped sink and toilet. We didn’t use that shower. Mom and Dad’s bedroom had an en-suite bathroom with a telephone-booth style shower, a few mirrors, plenty of towel racks, and a sink and toilet. Abby’s bedroom had a huge, bright red bathtub and a sleek sink, neither of which were actually “plumbed in”. The bathroom adjacent to Ben’s room was like the parents’ bathroom in ameni...

At First Glance: Again only one bathroom, with only a bathtub. The “showerhead” hung a few inches above the bathtub rim – not good! Reading the house’s instructions, we learned that the recommended way to get clean was to take a bath. Ugh!

Shower Power: There was no shower power, as it was not a shower. However, the bathwater came out somewhat strong, a lovely green color, too!

Hot or Not?: Not at all hot! Freezing cold water, made colder by the absolutely icy air whistling through ...

At First Glance: Only one bathroom. Tiny, too, with very few places to put things. A very small shower, as well.

Shower Power: Decent. An adjustable showerhead, with the ability to move up and down, right and left. Pressure controlled by a knob on a box.

Hot or Not?: Also decent, and also controlled by a knob on a box.

What Made it Nice: An abundance of different-colored towels made it easy to tell our towels apart from the others.

What Made it Not-So-Nice: One bathroom with one shower...

At First Glance: Two separate bathrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs. The upstairs bathroom became the kids’ bathroom. It was a bathtub-shower combo with a clear glass curtain that only reached half of the bathtub. At First Glance: Weird layout! Three “bathrooms”, but not at all what one would expect. One bathroom has a shower, a sink, a washing machine, a mirror, a stool, lots of towels, and plenty of hanging space – the “shower room”. The second has a toilet, a sink, a mirror, and a few cleaning supplies – the “toilet room”. The third bathroom has two sinks, two mirrors, a bath and shower combination, and a bidet, along with an abundance of towel rods and hooks – the “bath room”....

At First Glance: Rather small, but functional. Two sliding doors slide towards a corner, where they meet to seal off the shower. The doors are an awesome-looking material that looks like it has bubbles on it, but that’s just the design. There’s a shower caddy in the shower, the first in many months. It has two shelves, two hooks, and a soap bar.

Shower Power: Incredible, if you turn it on all the way. It was conveniently adjustable.

At First Glance: Wow. What a huge bathtub! You could actually recline in that thing, or maybe even lie down! Incredible!

Shower Power: So amazing. Too powerful, but luckily adjustable. If we pulled up the facuet handle only part of the way, we could find the perfect pressure.

Hot or Not?: Also remarkable. The hot and cold are switched, though, and not correctly marked, but it’s still perfectly adjustable to one’s own comfort level.

What Made it Nice: The definite cleanliness of it all was very reassuring to us germaphobes.

What Made it Not-So-Nice: One cannot sit in a square bathtub.

At First Glance: What sparkling white walls and floor! Have I ever seen a shower this clean before? I have, actually, but it’s been so long! I love the benefits of sleeping in a hotel!

Shower Power: Mom’s power was wonderful. She took a lovely, long shower, with pounding pressure, and enjoyed it immensely. Next went Lindsey, who experienced medium flow. I took the last shower, and was sorely disappointed.

At First Glance: So many pipes! Is it really that hard to just put the pipes behind walls? Really now!

Shower Power: Nada pressure in Granada. We had to use it French-style, holding the showerhead inches from our head, because, if we put it in the wall mount, it dripped only on the knobs below.

Hot or Not?: Plenty hot, and easily adjustable, but we had to be careful not to burn ourselves on the scorching hot water pipes that were everywhere in the shower.

Hot or Not?: Fickle, but not as much as some showers have been in the recent past. It stayed mostly around the showerer’s desired temperature.

What Made it Nice: Bright blue shower gel, milk and honey liquid soap, hooks and towel rods galore, and they even provided toilet paper! A bathtub was also a special treat. There was a she...

At First Glance: It has a shower curtain! And a mount for the shower head! And tiled walls and floor, instead of stucco paint surfaces like in the last shower!

Shower Power: Pretty good…OK, not so great…well, it’s decent. Fluxuating!

Hot or Not?: Boiling hot…no, wait, freezing cold..oh, now it’s nice and warm…but now it’s cold again. Indecisive!

What Made it Nice: Little ledge a few inches above the floor on which to balance the bottles and stuff.

At First Glance: Just a niche in the wall – no linoleum, tile, or anything, just blue paint on the walls, ceiling, and floor. No shower curtain, either, and no mount for the shower head. Also, no soap dish, no shelves, nothing. It was the simplest shower I have ever encountered.

Shower Power: Splendid, actually, because we had control over how close the showerhead was to our own heads. It could be pretty powerful if we held it close to the scalp, or very weak, if we let it trickle down to ...

At First Glance: Beautiful bathrooms – two, right next to each other! The one on the left was small and squished, while the one on the right was large and open and enjoyable to be in.

Shower Power: Both showers exhibited excellent power, cleaning us well, although we sometimes competed with one another for water in the sink and in the shower, and therefore did not want two showers to have to compete against one another for water.

At First Glance: We were surprised to find only half of the shower covered by a clear shower door which opens outward from the shower. It’s a shower/bathtub combination, with a very small bathtub. The corners of the bathtub are the only surface for standing shampoo and conditioner bottles.

At First Glance: Chrystal-clear siding gave view to a sparkling-clean white shower. The entrance is guarded by two curved doors on a track and pulled apart to allow the showerer entry. It’s odd, but neat, and reminds us in a way of our own home’s sliding glass door leading to the backyard.

Shower Power: Wonderful! Reminded us of home, which of course was my favorite shower. A steady stream of serenity.

At First Glance: Yellow, white, and green ceramic tiles on walls and floor of shower coordinate perfectly with yellow and green flowery shower curtain.

Shower Power: Decent. Not amazing.

Hot or Not?: Again, decent. We have to be careful of emptying our water heater. It is a strange shower, because the showerer first sets the temperature in degrees Celcius with the dial, and then turns on the water flow, which comes out hot from the very beginning.

What Made it Nice: Interesting tilework ...

What Made it Nice: So many hooks! And a big long shelf the whole shower-length long. A long bench outside of the showers, as well as shorter...

At First Glance: Very odd set-up. The walls of the bathroom were paneled wood, like in the condo at Tahoe. There was a sink, a toilet, a huge trash can, and a tiny shower at the very back of the room. The place was filthy. There was green stuff all around the sink, and dust and dirt piled high behind the toilet. The shower itself was decent, but still not pleasantly clean.

Shower Power: Pretty pathetic.

Hot or Not?: Sketchy. Sometimes hot and sometimes cold.

What Made it Nice: The chance...

At First Glance: Decent. Clean, spacious, functional. Nothing special at all. One bench for all three showers. Each shower is $1.50 for five minutes. The showerhead protrudes from a metal box and the only other thing in the shower is a metal shelf in the corner, big enough for all shower necessities.

Shower Power: Shall we say an extreme stream? Very hard. Too hard. Almost pushed us over. And the showerhead was too low.

Hot or Not?: Plenty hot the whole shower long.

At First Glance: Bland. Can showers be bland? Well, these were. NO decorations, no color, nothing. The tiles that covered floors and walls were a dull gray cream color.

Shower Power: Varied from shower to shower. Ben rejoiced in his powerful shower – what he called a “pressure wash”, while my shower was wimpy beyond comparison.

Hot or Not?: Varied from time to time. Whenever another shower made an adjustment – on, off, hotter, colder, the other showers changed, too, very unexpectan...

At First Glance: This bathroom had ample showering and changing space. A stylish blue and green shower curtain complimented the bathroom’s color scheme.

Shower Power: Excellent! The best I’ve ever seen! So very, very powerful.

Hot or Not?: Wonderfully, perfectly hot. Correctly labeled and perfectly adjustable too!

What Made it Nice: The bathhub attached to this shower was a real treat, as was the knowledge that it was really and truly clean. We didn’t have to wear our shower shoes! ...

At First Glance: A building with two doors, each marked family bathroom; a rather large room with a tall ceiling, wooden walls like in a cabin, beautiful beige and brown tiles on the floor and the walls of the shower. In this “family restroom” was a toilet, a spacious shower, a sink in granite countertop on top of locked wooden cupboards, and a large trashcan.

Shower Power: Started strong, but became slightly weaker with each flush of the toilet or running of water in the sink. Still, it...

At First Glance: Nice rose theme everywhere – in the lacy white curtains on both the windows and the mirrors, the pressed roses hanging on the wall as decorations, the rose-colored tiles, walls, and stalls. Fake roses even draped the draperies above the bathroom mirrors!

Shower Power: Somewhat decent. Not quite powerful, although probably due to the fact that we always showered in pairs. Showerhead was a bit low too.

At First Glance: Heavenly in appearance. A lovely color scheme, very well-coordinated. Two soap dishes and four bathtub corners on which to precariously balance shower necessities.

Shower Power: Splendid! So strong, mighty, and vigorous!! Showerhead was nice and high, with many adjustabilities to it.

Hot or Not?: Perfectly hot, but not very adjustable. I moved it just a little colder, and it went freezing cold, so I moved it back, and it was nice and hot again. But it was properly labeled. ...

We did not visit these showers because they were so disgusting, and it was not worth the journey there for fifty cents per shower. 

At First Glance: We walk up to a beige-colored building on gray sidewalks through dead brown grass, and punch in the code, open the door, and the color swallows us up like we’re Thanksgiving dinner. The hallway is alive with color: bright green and brilliant yellow with a wavy purple stripe separating the two colors the entire length of the hallway. On the right side of the hallway are six doors to six showers, and on the left are two doors, one to the men’s restrooms and one to the women...

At First Glance: Tiny showers, filthy floors, no shelves or benches, just four metal folding chairs. Only one double hook in each itty bitty shower. Very limited changing space, too!

Shower Power: Decent, but not impressive.

Hot or Not?: Easily adjustable and correctly labeled, and, therefore, perfect! Mind you, the only really good thing about these showers!

At First Glance: Pleasantly clean, taking advantage of natural light, ample changing space but not very spacious showers. Silhouettes of Elvis, music notes, and guitars graced the walls to keep to the Elvis theme of the campground.

Shower Power: Wonderfully powerful spray. Almost too hard! When turned on, it sprayed straight at the curtain, powerfully enough to make it float beyond the little barrier on the ground that attempted to keep the water inside the shower, with little luck.

At First Glance: Wow. So pretty! Real tiled walls and floors, in greens, tans, and browns – nice earthy, wilderness-like tones. Every so often in the tiled walls was a cute little painted picture of wildlife, a couple songbirds, or butterflies. Three small-ish shower stalls, and one gigantic handicapped-accessible stall.

What Made it Nice: Plenty of changing room outside the shower stalls across from bathroom sinks, complete with a long bench and lots of hooks.

What Made it Not-So-Nice: Floor was dirty just from people walking on it. A simple floor mat would have taken care of that nicely.

At First Glance: Gross beige linoleum floor clashed with even grosser taupe-painted stall walls. Blue letter stickers placed on shower doors announced “SHOWER” in a not straight line. The shower curtain wasn’t wide enough, the shower rod wasn’t high enough, and neither was the showerhead. The floor was dirty, there was no changing area, the showerhead had dried disgustingness on it, and the temperature adjuster knob glowed green with unwelcome growth.

Shower Power: WOW! Mighty! Almost too powerful! Abby thought it was too much, but I quite enjoyed the feeling of it pounding on my head. It made me feel cleaner somehow!

At First Glance: six public showers, along the hallway between men’s and women’s restrooms; everything was white, but not a very clean white.

Shower Power: Wonderful. But Mom felt like the showerhead was throwing pebbles at her. So maybe it varied with each shower.

Hot or Not?: Well…really hot. Throughout the shower it kept getting hotter and hotter. After a while, we just turned everything off, and then took cold-water showers. That felt really good!

What Made it Nice: Handy benche...

Shower Power: Preeetty good, but there have been better.

What Made it Nice: Lovely pot of flowers and high-up counter for all our stuff. Numerous hooks, and friendly people.

What Made it Not-So-Nice: It was humid, and there were only curtains, as opposed to doors, which provide more privacy.

At First Glance: Only one?! It’s so small, too! But a lovely bright salmon-colored shower curtain

Shower Power: Lovely. Powerful, but not too much.

What Made it Nice: Five double hooks, mat on floor, pretty shower curtain, wooden bench attached to wall, so extra sturdy. And COMPLIMENTARY TOWELS! We didn’t even have to use our own towels or worry about dropping them on the wet floor or getting dirty.

At First Glance: Pathetic. Painful to the eyes. It stinks, it’s small, there are mosquitos and other bugs, it’s hot, and I’m supposed to come here to get clean? The shower curtain didn’t even stay up!

Shower Power: So hard it was painful and we tried to get out from under it as much as possible. It’s hard to get clean that way.

At First Glance: Lovely interior design, wood and tan theme very complimentary to the tile walls of the shower.

Shower Power: Perfect. Far above all of our heads, showerhead sent water exactly where we wanted it, at a decent water pressure.

What Made it Nice: The decorations, the shelves (one for sitting, two for stuff), the wall of hooks outside, the generous amount of space and the assurance that everything was REALLY clean.

We chose not to shower in these showers because they cost $1.00 for four minutes. Also, they were fairly small and there were only two shower stalls. And – believe it or not – there were NO knobs with which to change the temperature of the water. 

At First Glance: White. Ordinary. Small. Short.  

Shower Power: Weak. So weak that it required us to rinse our hair with pitchers of hot water from the kitchen sink.

Hot or Not?: Both. Flashed constantly between the two, and I hear the last 2 ½ showers were very chilly.

At First Glance: Sunny yellow tiles, spacious stalls, showers look thoroughly cleaned.

Shower Power: Not too weak.

Hot or Not?: Hot! But sometimes borderline scorching.

What Made It Nice: The spaciousness and cheery colors. And my 6’4” father fit under the showerhead!! He measured the showerheads to be 6’7” tall – quite accommodating for the tall people. Also, free of charge. 

What Made It Not-So-Nice: Water went everywhere in the stalls. Even though there were hooks and shelve...

We did not visit these showers because the mosquitoes were so large in number, and there was snow (in July!), mud, and slush on the ground, and it was not worth the journey there for 75 cents for a four-minute shower. 

At First Glance: Boring, green and gray walls. Wooden stools, wooden benches. Convenient hooks. No-nonsense atmosphere. Like what one would expect in the military. 
Shower Power: Powerful water flow. Pressure strong - sometimes too strong. 
Hot Or Not?: Hot. Slowly got hotter and hotter as the shower progressed - not great, but not horrible. 
What Made It Nice: This shower felt SO good. All of us very much enjoyed this shower, hypnotized by the feeling of water pounding heavily down onto us.
